# 4.0 Section introduction

The Exchange supports several mechanisms through which a trade can be entered, each described in detail in this section:

* the central order book (4.1)
* request for quote (4.2)
* OTC and Block Clear registration (4.3)
* the Trade Scheduler (4.4)

These are distinct from the means of access. Members reach each mechanism in one of three ways, where supported and applicable:

* through the Exchange’s platform interface
* through the API
* through connected order aggregator platforms such as Trading Technologies or Trayport

Access channel and trading mechanism are independent choices: the same order book, RFQ or registration flow can be driven from the interface, programmatically, or via an aggregator.

Chapter 5 describes the Market Making Programme, which supports liquidity across these mechanisms rather than being a trade entry route in itself.

Section 4.5 introduces marker trades, which are ways of pricing a trade rather than further mechanisms.
